Frequently asked questions
What details should I include when requesting a catering quote?+
Provide the event date, complete address or city, estimated guest count, type of event, preferred meal time, desired service style, dietary needs, and any rental or floral requests. An approximate budget is also helpful because it allows the team to recommend realistic menu and service options.
How quickly will someone respond to my inquiry?+
The team aims to respond promptly during normal business hours, and many complete quote requests receive a same-day response. Complex events may require follow-up questions before an accurate proposal can be prepared. Providing detailed information at the start helps reduce unnecessary back-and-forth.
Does submitting the contact form reserve my event date?+
No. An inquiry or preliminary quote does not hold the date. The event is considered confirmed only after the required catering agreement, deposit, or online checkout process has been completed. Availability may change while a proposal is being reviewed.
Can I ask for a quote before the final guest count is known?+
Yes. Use your best current estimate when submitting the request. The proposal can be revised as attendance becomes clearer, subject to ordering deadlines and availability. Significant changes may affect food quantities, staffing, rentals, equipment, and price.
When should I order online instead of requesting a custom proposal?+
Online checkout works well for straightforward drop-off orders when you already know the dishes, quantities, address, and delivery time. Request a custom proposal for weddings, staffed events, plated or family-style service, several meal periods, rentals, florals, bartenders, multiple locations, or help estimating food.
May I call or email instead of using the form?+
Yes. You may contact the team by phone or email during the published hours. For detailed events, the online form is still useful because it records the date, guest count, contact information, and initial service needs before the planning conversation begins.
Can I begin planning before choosing a venue?+
Yes. Provide the city or general area and note that the venue is still being selected. Pricing and staffing may remain preliminary until the final address is known because parking, loading, stairs, elevators, staging space, kitchen access, and setup windows can affect the plan.
Which nearby cities can I submit through the San Mateo quote form?+
The form may be used for San Mateo Catering as well as nearby Burlingame Catering, Millbrae Catering, Foster City Catering, and Belmont Catering requests. Include the complete event address so delivery availability, travel, staffing, and access requirements can be confirmed.
How far in advance should I contact the catering team?+
All catering bookings require at least 72 hours of notice. Smaller drop-off events are often best booked five to 14 days ahead, while large staffed events, weddings, florals, and rentals should be reserved several weeks or months in advance whenever possible.
What minimum order should I expect?+
Most drop-off catering orders require at least $500 in food. Boxed meals follow separate quantity requirements, and full-service or wedding minimums depend on the selected package, guest count, date, and event scope.
Can dietary restrictions and allergies be included in the proposal?+
Yes. Provide the number of vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, or other meals required. Identify serious allergies by the specific allergen so the team can review suitable menu choices and any limitations before the order is confirmed.
What is the difference between drop-off, attendants, and full service?+
Drop-off means prepared food is delivered ready for your group to serve. Drop-off with attendants adds staff for setup, monitoring, replenishment, and cleanup support. Full service provides a more complete event team for buffet, family-style, or plated service, along with professional serveware and optional rentals, florals, and beverages.
Can plates, utensils, linens, and serving equipment be supplied?+
Yes. Disposable plates, utensils, napkins, and serving utensils can be added to many drop-off orders. Full-service events may include or add china, glassware, flatware, linens, tables, chairs, buffet equipment, and chafing dishes depending on the selected package.
Can the menu or package be customized for my event?+
Yes. Published menus and packages are starting points. The team can adjust selections around the guest count, dietary needs, budget, venue, theme, timeline, and desired service level, subject to availability and preparation requirements.
What is required to officially book the event?+
After you approve the quote, a catering agreement is sent for signature. Orders over $3,000 also require a 50% deposit to reserve the date. The remaining balance is due 10 days before the event, and the agreement outlines applicable payment and cancellation terms.
Can guest counts or menu choices change after booking?+
Yes. Guest-count and menu revisions are generally welcome until 10 days before the event. Changes requested after that deadline may be limited because ingredients, staff, equipment, and rental inventory may already have been committed.
Are tastings available for weddings or larger events?+
Yes. Mobile tastings are available for weddings and qualifying large events once the menu has been narrowed to a useful selection. Confirmed wedding clients receive a complimentary tasting, while pre-contract tastings may be purchased and credited if the wedding is later booked.
Can one proposal include catering, rentals, florals, and bartenders?+
Yes. Depending on the event, one proposal can coordinate food, service staff, bartenders, tables, chairs, linens, china, glassware, floral arrangements, balloon arches, and tablescape styling. The client or venue must purchase and provide any alcohol to be served.
How much does catering typically cost?+
Pricing depends on guest count, menu, service style, staffing, venue logistics, and optional additions. Drop-off catering commonly begins around $15 to $25 per person, boxed meals start at approximately $18.75 per box, and full-service catering may range from roughly $45 to $95 or more per person. A custom quote will reflect the actual event details.
Who should be listed as the event-day contact?+
Choose someone who will be reachable when the delivery or service team arrives and understands the venue-access plan. For weddings or events where the host will be unavailable, list the planner, office manager, venue representative, or another responsible person who can answer logistical questions.
